Leica SL3 will be announced at the end of March

Leica is preparing to announce a new high-tech full-frame mirrorless camera – the Leica SL3. The source revealed the announcement date of the new product, as well as most of its technical characteristics, which, among other things, reflect the advanced capabilities of the device in terms of video shooting.

The Leica camera is expected to be announced on March 21-22, 2024. It is expected that the Leica SL3 camera will cost 8,000 euros.

The Leica SL3 is reported to use the same 60MP sensor as the Leica M11 (announced last October) and Leica Q3. In this case, the camera body will be slightly smaller than that of the current Leica SL2 model. The new camera will receive an L-mount bayonet mount.

The Leica SL3 camera will receive a 6.5-stop image stabilization system (IBIS). This will allow you to both shoot video handheld and take photographs with longer shutter speeds without using a tripod.

The Leica SL3 mirrorless camera will work with a phase detection autofocus system. And continuous shooting will be available at speeds of up to 9 frames per second.

At the same time, the camera. will receive advanced video shooting capabilities. Apparently, due to the improved hardware capabilities of the processor. The Leica SL3 will be able to record video in 8K 30fps and 4K 60fps – in both cases with an additional crop factor. There will also be an option to shoot in full-frame C4K 30fps mode or Super35 mode with the same resolution and frame rate.

At the moment, the Leica SL3 camera has already passed the official registration procedure – it has been assigned the number Type 5404 (2023AJ18816) – its card has previously been published. The camera is being tested in real conditions, the source reports.

It is separately specified that a new lens for Leica M-mount cameras will be announced in April 2024. Its characteristics have not yet been disclosed.

Leica will present a new product – SL3, and Panasonic will release its version of an advanced full-frame mirrorless camera with an L-mount mount. The camera that Panasonic will release will also support 8K recording.

Since Panasonic has also already officially registered a new yet unannounced camera, its technical specifications have been revealed.
