The Marantz NR1200 features signature Marantz styling with a thick aluminum front panel that places all the controls you need very conveniently. The Marantz NR1200 features superior, premium build quality and will look great as part of any AV system.
The Marantz NR1200 circuit integrates HDAM SA2 and HDAM SA3 discrete amplifier modules. The model uses current feedback, with which it is possible to minimize distortion, expand the frequency range, obtain excellent transient characteristics and, in combination with a powerful power supply, ensure reliable operation even with capricious speakers in terms of impedance. The Marantz NR1200 outputs 2 x 75 watts per channel into 8 ohms.
There is a full range of linear and digital inputs on board. Thanks to the built-in AKM AK4458 converter (24 bit/192 kHz), the Marantz NR1200 stereo receiver can be used as an external DAC. To do this, there is a coaxial and optical input on its rear panel, and the entire printed circuit board of the digital circuit is located in a metal case-screen and does not have a negative impact on the analog circuits; there are also 5 HDMI inputs and one HDMI output (with support for a return channel, which is convenient when working in conjunction with TV). All ports are version 2.0a and support HDCP 2.3, 4K video (60 Hz), 3D, HDR, Dolby Vision, DSD file transfer and other functions. The model has a USB port for external storage devices and two connectors for subwoofers. Four pairs of screw terminals are used to connect the speakers. Four pairs of gold-plated screw terminals are used to connect to the speakers, which is convenient for organizing bi-wiring. There is a Pre Out for a pair of active subwoofers and a separate Pre Out for the second zone.
The Marantz NR1200 stereo receiver is equipped with audiophile capacitors, resistors with minimum tolerances and other high-quality components, and its circuitry provides the shortest audio signal paths. Marantz Musical Digital Filtering (MMDF) technology is used, which uses DSP and allows you to use one of two digital filters for clear, detailed sound. The Marantz NR1200 has a built-in headphone amplifier with volume control, HDAM-SA2 module and selectable gain.
The Marantz NR1200 features Bluetooth, dual-band Wi-Fi for reliable wireless connections even in congested wireless environments, AirPlay 2 support for iOS devices, and works with HEOS multi-room technology. The HEOS ecosystem ensures broadcasting Hi-Res audio over the air to any room without any delays or losses, and also allows you to control the volume of the streamer and playback of all available audio content (including online content of network services) on all supporting devices through the application. HEOS devices, including speakers.
This opens access to Spotify Connect, Pandora, SiriusXM, Amazon Music, TIDAL, Deezer and other web services, incl. to TuneIn web radio. In addition to the standard remote control and HEOS application, you can send commands to the Marantz NR1200 via voice using the Amazon Alexa assistant. This feature requires the HEOS Home Entertainment Skill app and an Amazon Echo device to be installed. Over a local network and via USB, the Marantz NR1200 can play PCM (up to 24 bit/192 kHz) and DSD up to 5.6 MHz.
The amplifier reproduces the soundtrack of movies and television shows well. When watching the second season of Final Space, Marantz did a good job of conveying the crazy action on screen and sounded convincing and exciting. Since there is additional signal processing in this model, the degree of immersion in the sound picture will largely depend on your speakers.
A brief test of the Marantz NR1200 on the PS5 revealed that I was slightly worse at playing Red Dead Redemption II than Grand Theft Auto V, and that the Marantz’s sound signature was exactly as it should be. Perhaps the only area in which the amplifier proved weaker than models in this price category is the built-in phono stage. Therefore, if you are seriously passionate about listening to vinyl, then it is better to use an external equalizer with the Marantz NR1200 amplifier. Moreover, if the Marantz NR1200 has linear inputs, this will not be difficult to do. After all, this is not the worst crime for an amplifier that has streaming, Internet radio, and also FM.
