The brainchild of the famous semiconductor audio designer Bruno Putzeys, the Dutch company Mola-Mola has released the Mola Mola Kula integrated circuit. He received a modular design, balanced circuitry and processor control. The body is taken from the Makua preamp. From there, we borrowed a part of the circuitry of the input stages and an additional phono stage (one of the modules that can be used to supplement the basic version of the amplifier).
Another module is the DAC section, which follows the design of the Tambaqui model , has five digital inputs, supports a Roon endpoint, and is complemented by a Bluetooth chipset. The basic version of the Kula provides six switchable analog line inputs: three balanced XLR and three unbalanced RCA.
The final amplifier in Mola Mola Kula supplies the signal to Furutech terminals, which are connected to the board with a Kubala · Sosna cable. In Mola Mola Kula, you can not only select channels, but also invert their phase or sum the signal to mono. The “Mastering” operating mode is also provided.
But the main attention should be paid to a few numbers. According to Mola-Mola, the Kula delivers a maximum of 150 watts per channel to 8 ohm speakers or 300 watts into 4 ohms. In this case, the coefficient of nonlinear distortion at a frequency of 1 kHz does not exceed 1%. But if this volume (power) is reduced to, respectively, 100 and 200 W, then the THD will fall to 0.0005 and 0.00075%.
The amplifier is assembled in a 420x110x370 mm case. Front panel controls are duplicated by the remote control and the Mola-Mola Remote app with programmable presets. With the DAC module plugged in, Roon can be used.
