The history of Gato Audio is in many ways the quintessence of many similar evolutions of audio companies, especially Danish ones. It begins back in the 1950s – with the fact that young Paul Rossing mastered the basics of sound engineering at a small radio factory owned by his father. It will come as no surprise that Pohl eventually chose the hi-fi path, which he first followed as a distributor for Audio Research, Luxman, Cabasse, B&W and Fidelity Research. Having gained financial strength, our hero then moved on to production. This was a joint venture with Chinese partners that produced Avance speaker systems.
Somewhere in Denmark, in the mid-90s of the last century, one engineer and one artist-designer came to work for a small amplifier company – Holfi. The company did not last long, but Fredrik Johansen and Kresten Dinesen became friends. Johansen worked for some time for Thule Audio, another Danish company. Thule Audio produced Hi-Fi electronics both under its own brand and to order (OEM), for example, the TEAC A-BX10 integrated amplifier was produced for TEAC.
In 2003, Poul Rossing bought the intellectual property and trademark of the Danish amplifier manufacturer GamuT Audio (formerly known as Sirius) and repurposed GamuT mainly for the production of speaker systems. In 2004, Johansen was hired by GamuT. Poul Rossing decided to retire and in 2007 sold GamuT to the company’s chief engineer Lars Goller. However, Rossing was not able to remain in retirement for long. In 2007, Dinesen, Johansen and engineer Rasmus Holm persuaded him to join the new company Gato Audio, in which each received 1/4 shares. Gato Audio, in addition to producing Hi-Fi, also has another business: it sells various audiophile parts by mail for DIY enthusiasts.
Gato Audio has been producing products under its own brand since 2007. Gato Audio has accumulated the experience of several Danish companies, many of which are widely known and highly respected among High End lovers and connoisseurs: Avance (acoustic systems with reinforced concrete enclosures), Holfi, Thule Audio, GamuT, Tymphany (Vifa, Peerless, ScanSpeak) . A team of competent, highly experienced specialists in the field of acoustics, electronics and design represent the Danish school of audio, developing audio components with maximum attention to all parts: power supply, circuit design, acoustics, mechanical structure, external design. The guiding principle of Gato Audio is uncompromisingly high quality in general and in detail. The distinctive features of the Danish company’s components are their impeccably balanced design, exquisite, very musical sound and unique design.
The company’s production, research and management structures are located in Herlev, near Copenhagen – development, manual assembly, testing and strict quality control of products are carried out here. The designers have at their disposal advanced production and testing equipment (Audio Precision complex). Printed circuit boards are manufactured and assembled using high-precision machines; aluminum is supplied by the best metallurgical plants, and the basic base is supplied by the most reputable, trusted manufacturers, whose products meet the strictest criteria of quality and reliability.
