A company from Slovenia has released the SUT-1M MC transformer, designed to work with MC cartridges with medium and high impedance (Audio-Technica, Benz Micro, EMT, etc.). Previously, the SUT-1L model was introduced for low impedance heads.
The device is equipped with two inputs with different transformation ratios – 1:5 and 1:10 with a gain of 14 or 20 dB, respectively. An RCA connector is provided for connecting “ideal” output resistors. Available values are 100, 200, 400, 470 and 1880 ohms, other values on request and at no additional charge.
The transformer core is custom-made in Germany from Mu-metal, it is placed inside a bronze screen and mounted on an intermediate steel plate, which dampens resonances. The signal-to-noise ratio is no worse than 115 dB, harmonic distortion is no more than 0.01% at 40 Hz. The manufacturer assures that the frequency and phase characteristics of the device are absolutely linear, so it does not add color to the sound.
Available in black or silver. Dimensions 145 × 95 × 160 mm. European price – €3000.
