Arcam PA240 is a flagship two-channel power amplifier that belongs to the new generation of amplifiers from the High Definition Audio (HDA) series. The model operates in G-class, which combines the advantages of class A amplifiers (high sound quality) and class AB (high efficiency and high power). The G-Class typically uses switchable power rails, i.e. At low output voltage levels, power is supplied from the low voltage rails, and when the level increases to a certain value, it is connected to the higher voltage rails. Those. the circuits of such an amplifier are capable of adjusting in real time the power requirement of the output section of the amplifier and spending on it exactly as much electricity as is required at that particular moment. As a result, the efficiency of the power generator increases, and energy consumption decreases. At the same time, up to a power of 50 W, Arcam PA240 operates in pure A-class.
Arcam PA240 circuits use carefully selected high-quality components, and the power supply uses a massive toroidal transformer. The model has an output stage using transistors in parallel connection and provides negligible levels of distortion. In normal stereo mode, the terminal is capable of delivering 380 W per channel into 4 ohms and 225 W into a load of 8 ohms. When switched on in bridge mode, the device turns into a monoblock, guaranteeing an impressive 790 W at an eight-ohm load.
The Arcam PA240 amplifier has a new industrial design. The body has excellent damping, and the total weight reaches 18 kg. The model is equipped with a balanced XLR input and an unbalanced RCA input, which is duplicated by a similar RCA output. On the rear panel there is a slide selector switch that allows you to select the desired pair of connectors (RCA or XLR), as well as switches for selecting one of the gain values (25 dB or 31 dB) and for activating one of the operating modes: stereo, bridged or “dual mono”.
In this case, the “dual mono” mode allows you to use one Arcam PA240 power amplifier for each of the two channels. There is an RS-232 interface and a LAN port, which serve to integrate the Arcam PA240 into a home automation system or into a local network for remote control and monitoring. The model also has two trigger connectors (input and output) and a USB port designed for updating software and charging batteries of USB devices. Two pairs of high-quality screw terminals are used to connect speaker systems.
