Leema Constellation Tucana II: Next-gen integrated amplifier

The large power reserve of the Tucana II is more than enough to control the most complex speaker systems

Leema Constellation Tucana II

Since its launch, the Tucana has consistently delivered unrivalled performance in its high-end chassis, which has been met with widespread praise from users and the press alike. For this reason, the Tucana has won numerous awards in the decade since its launch, and has established itself as a reference-level unit, delivering results that other amplifiers can only aspire to.

Leema have revised key areas of the unit’s circuitry that determine much of the character and performance of its already impressive sound. The result is the Tucana 2, which, along with its revised internals, also features a stunning new front panel made from machined and chromed billet bearing the Leema Delta logo.

Continuing with the changes, the PCBs have been upgraded by doubling the copper content, further increasing the resistance of the PCB traces and increasing the power output. All relevant capacitors have been replaced with high quality Nichicon MUSE series units. The terminal wiring that links the PCB to the speaker system has now been replaced with our own Reference 2 speaker cable, which features 16 twisted, high purity stranded copper centre conductors, each with an individual silver pad.

As before, all transistors are hand-selected to match the amplifier parameters precisely, ensuring optimum sound quality and minimal distortion. The power amplifier transformers are Noratel’s superb xtraquiet ultra-low-noise units, ensuring perfect power output without any unwanted hum or excessive heat generation.

Of course, we didn’t stop there – inside each amplifier case there is an individual data sheet, which confirms that each functional unit is fully functional. In addition, there is a duplicate of the testing and measurement results, confirmed by a test engineer. The unit itself is supplied in recyclable fabric packaging with the Leema logo imprinted on it, and the packaging inserts are now 100% recyclable high-strength black coarse-cell foam, meaning that all packaging materials can be reused. Like all other components in the Constellation series, this unit is supplied with our new Focus remote control. Rest assured, this is still the Leema Tucana II amplifier you know and love, just a little bit improved.

The sound of the Leema Tucana II is positioned as “an improved version of the original”, which retains the signature features, but at the same time increases the dynamics, detail and clarity. The large power reserve is more than enough to control the most complex speaker systems. The “dual mono” design uses three toroidal transformers, one for each channel and one more feeds the control circuit. All this guarantees the most accurate transfer of musical material.
