German audio manufacturer LinnenberG is celebrating its thirtieth anniversary this year. The thirtieth anniversary is being celebrated with the launch of the Anniversary Series amplifiers. LinnenberG engineers promise to pull out all the stops for the most refined reproduction combined with high-quality build quality.
LinnenberG: German manufacturer that has existed since 1994
Germany-based LinnenberG has been designing what it claims are the most demanding digital and analog circuits since 1994. Unparalleled circuit design plays the most important role in building true high-end electronics that can create magical moments, according to the company. LinnenberG’s experience ranges from chips to tubes and from robust professional audio to delicate high-end audio. All products are manufactured entirely in Germany. Each component is carefully assembled by hand. Quality control is ensured by a strict test procedure and a precise inspection process.
Specifications are not the most important factor in creating fine audiophile equipment, but – the company emphasizes – neglecting technical aspects is not the way to go either. The motto is therefore to make every single specification at least ten times better than what is actually needed and to find a perfect harmony. “It is absolutely worthless to offer a product that shines in one or two aspects, while failing in others. Yes, the human ear is always the final judge, but not as a cheap excuse for poor engineering,” as can be read on the LinnenberG website.
LinnenberG VV30: preamplifier with analog and digital inputs
The VV30 is an analogue preamplifier for all common signal sources, both analogue (RCA and XLR) and digital. The signal processing in the VV30 is strictly balanced, making the VV30 the ideal control centre for a fully balanced audio system. The high and stable output drive allows long cable runs to the power amplifier with zero phase shift across the entire frequency spectrum.
DA conversion is handled by the ES9038 PRO, with innovative circuits that deliver spectacular music without annoying artifacts. The DA converter is a modular thing and can be replaced at any time if necessary or useful.
LinnenberG PH30: phono amplifier for MM and MC cartridges
The PH30 is a configurable phono amplifier. The fully discrete JFET input is particularly suitable for low-output MC cartridges, but the PH30 is also suitable for high-output MM and MC cartridges. The JFETs used are manually selected and measured. The phono amplifier has three inputs, freely configurable for MM and MC cartridges. The user can choose between thirteen different resistor values from 30 Ohm to 47kOhm and eight different capacitor values from 50 pF to 420 pF.
LinnenberG ES30: symmetrically constructed mono power amplifier
The last in the series is the ES30, a mono power amplifier with a fully symmetrical architecture. Two closely coupled amplifiers in a push-pull arrangement together drive a single loudspeaker. A third amplifier provides a virtual ground. Although this triples the cost, it relieves the circuit ground of carrying any return currents from the loudspeaker and the result is an extremely clean ground potential. This architecture is called SYMTONE by
The ES30 is based on a 1.5kW power supply. Under the hood are 24 selected 15A 200W bipolar output transistors, as well as six 6x selected 25A bipolar transistors for the virtual ground amplifier. The rated power is 250W into eight ohms, 500W into four ohms and 1,000W into two ohms. Meanwhile, the ES30 is also a sophisticated amplifier with an A-weighted S/N ratio of 127dB and a total harmonic distortion of less than 0.001 percent.
The members of the Anniversary series are relatively compact, each measuring 260 millimeters wide. The VV30 and PH30 are 170 millimeters high and 310 millimeters deep. The ES30 is a bit larger, measuring 210 millimeters high and 400 millimeters deep.
