The German company Octave presented an updated power amplifier MRE 220 , the name of which now has two additional letters – SE. According to the developers, the next model opens a new chapter in amplifier design.
The MRE 220 SE uses four KT88 S4-A carbon tubes and is rated at 220W output. In terms of improvements over previous models, the MRE 220 SE features a new output stage and the ability to adjust the damping factor.
Using chassis-mounted switches, the listener can choose between two damping ratio settings: “LOW” or “HIGH,” as well as separate settings for negative feedback. This is a completely new approach to the problem of a tube power amplifier, which should cope as best as possible with all loudspeakers available on the market.
The amplifier operates in the frequency range from 20 Hz to 70,000 Hz with a signal-to-noise ratio of -116 dB and an input impedance of 50 kOhm RCA / 25 kOhm XLR.
