Primare I15 MM

The compact integrated amplifier Primare I15 MM is equipped with Hypex amplifier modules. The amplifier develops a power of 2×60 W (8 Ohm). The device is equipped with analog outputs of a linear level, i.e. it can be used as a preamplifier.

The amplifier design provides high output power with low distortion and convenient control of the entire new Primare 15 series system. Due to the virtually instantaneous rise time of the pulse in ultra-fast power supplies, natural, clean and lively sound is achieved in an extended frequency range, with a good overload reserve.

Primare I15 MM consists of two discrete amplifiers on ultra-fast power supplies. The Primare I15 MM case is made of thick steel, which provides strength and reliability, perfectly shields the device and effectively absorbs vibrations from external sources. To reduce the level of distortion, the preamplification section is located away from the power amplifier section and is powered by a separate power supply. Primare I15 MM is equipped with four pairs of unbalanced input RCA connectors, a line output, a Phono input. In addition, the system control capabilities are expanded thanks to the RS232 connector, infrared input / output and relay output.

The design is stylish and solid, the manufacturing is impeccable. Primare has always taken a responsible approach to the design of its full-size models, and here we see the same thing: the chassis and panels are made with a serious margin of safety, the internal boards, as you can see, are simply a sight to behold, the elements selected for the audio path are perhaps the best for the price category in which the new unit in the series is positioned. Finally, compact 100-watt Hypex assemblies are used as power amplifiers – these are quite advanced class D amplifiers, which can be found in cooler hi-fi components. It is almost impossible to distinguish them from classic class AB cascades by ear. From an environmental point of view, the Primare I15 MM significantly surpasses traditional class A/B designs, is extremely efficient and does not emit excess heat. In standby mode, the amplifier consumes only 0.3 W.

The amplifier, despite its impulse nature, sounds very confident, fast and dynamic. I liked how the edges of the range are worked out: the bass is assertive, lively and not petrified, and the top is like the best transistor designs of class AB – transparent, euphonious and quite neutral. All signal paths are made as short as possible. All signal processing (source selection, volume and balance adjustment) is performed exclusively in analog format. One LM1972 attenuator is used to adjust the volume and balance. Inputs are selected using highly efficient signal relays.
