Work on the Quad Artera Pre was led by Jan Ertner, who collaborated, in particular, with Audiolab. The approach to creating this model is remarkable. For example, the Artera Pre power supply included 11 adjustable power rails, some of which are ultra-low noise.
One of the features of the Quad Artera Pre is the Tilt tone control. It changes the relationship between the upper and lower frequencies simultaneously, attenuating some and strengthening others, or vice versa – in 1 dB steps relative to the “stationary” level located at a frequency of about 700 Hz. The frequency response, therefore, really “leans” in one direction or the other. In addition, step selection of three levels of low frequencies is available: -4.5 dB, 0, +4.5 dB. These adjustments can be combined individually for each input, compensating for the different sound character of sources.
The Quad Artera Pre features four stereo RCA inputs: three line-level and another Class A built-in phono input that can be switched to fit MM and MC cartridges. Additionally, there is one balanced XLR input. All inputs can operate in direct mode, passing the signal directly through with minimal interference. The four-channel volume control also corresponds to the switching. The system provides the ability to adjust the sensitivity of each input separately – in the range from -8 dB to +8 dB in 0.5 dB steps.
The product features adjustable balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA outputs, as well as a fixed-level RCA output. In addition, there are two 12V trigger outputs to control the activation of external devices (for example, power amplifiers). The Quad Artera Pre also has a built-in headphone amplifier equipped with a discrete Class A output stage with low output impedance. The kit includes a remote control. Available in black and silver front panel finishes.
