Luxman DA-06

Luxman DA-06 is a digital-to-analog converter that can become the central link of a modern audio system. The DAC is manufactured in a small metal case, on the shaped aluminum front panel of which all the necessary controls are located, as well as an LED display. The metal non-magnetic chassis protects the electronic part of the converter from external interference and interference, and massive supports prevent the occurrence of mechanical resonances.

The Luxman DA-06 digital-to-analog converter is a clear demonstration of the company’s aspirations and development vector – to always be on the crest of the wave of digital audio technologies. And although not so long ago, tracks in WAV, FLAC, ALAC, AIFF formats with a resolution of more than 16 bits/44 kHz were considered the limit of possibilities, today there are many more formats. And with the advent of new digital rip SACDs and their converted versions in DSF and DFF formats, quite expectedly, another vector of development of uncompressed audio tracks has emerged with a resolution of 64 and even 128 times greater than 16 bit/44 kHz and a quality level significantly higher than that of PCM.

Already now, audio content in the new DSD format is often found among the products, and since the direction has shown its best side and has gained wide popularity, the markets are filled with new DACs processing this technology, one of which is the Luxman DA-06 from the Japanese engineers.

Luxman DA-06 can process a DSD signal via a USB port from a computer, which is considered the optimal transport for playing DSD-type files (the appropriate programs must be installed on the PC). The build quality and finish of the DAC corresponds to high-end audio equipment, and this model will fit perfectly into any audio system. All connectors, including the network connector, in Luxman DA-06 are of the highest class and have gold-plated contact surfaces.

The Luxman DA-06 digital-to-analog converter is equipped with two optical, two coaxial and AES/EBU inputs and a USB input, as well as balanced and unbalanced analog outputs. In addition, the output signal can be obtained in digital form, from coaxial and optical connectors. The converter features a high-quality design that takes into account everything that could negatively affect sound quality. Luxman DA-06 uses only selected components that have passed strict incoming control.

The USB input block uses the TAS3152 chip, and it is possible to receive not only PCM, but also DSD stream (2.82 / 5.64 MHz). There are separate switchable digital filters for PCM and DSD signals, which allow you to optimize the sound of the unit. In addition, PCM signal upsampling up to 32 bit / 384 kHz is provided.

The DAC in the Luxman DA-06 is based on the PCM1792A chip with a differential output. The entire circuit of the device is made on three printed circuit boards. A power source is mounted on one of them, connected to a custom transformer, and having separate circuits for the analog and digital parts of the device. The latter two are also mounted on separate boards, which reduces the level of crossover distortion. The analog part has a “dual mono” design with symmetrical installation of both channels, and balanced circuitry. For use with the DA-06, the company recommends using its own software player, and also offers a special driver for downloading.
