Mutec has announced the MC1.2+, a bidirectional digital to digital converter (DDC). The MC1.2+ can easily convert PCM audio streams via the USB, AES/EBU, AES3/EBUid and S/PDIF interface ports. This process can be carried out simultaneously, also via USB, in both directions, both in and out. Such exceptional flexibility can be very useful in a professional recording studio.
Mutec MC1.2+: for converting one digital signal to another digital signal
The designers of the MC1.2+ promise versatile operation and lossless real-time signal transfer between audio interfaces, digital mixers and effects processors. The digital to digital converter features low-noise audio clock oscillators to enhance the USB audio stream by regenerating the signal and isolating the USB voltage. As a result, interferences that would normally be induced into the device’s circuitry via the USB interface voltage can no longer negatively affect the digital signal processing of the MC1.2+. This leads to a significant reduction in phase noise and clock jitter respectively, according to the German manufacturer’s explanation.
The MC1.2+ appears to be a variant of the MC3+ USB without the clock interface at a more competitive price. While the two-way control isn’t necessary in audio systems, the ability to isolate the DAC from noise on a PC’s USB input could make it a serious upgrade for streaming enthusiasts.
The Mutec MC1.2+ will be supplied with a black or silver front panel. The recommended retail price in Germany is 750 euros. Delivery of the Mutec MC1.2+ is expected to start in the third quarter of 2024.
