Technics EAH-AZ40M2: Updated sound in a compact body

Technics returns with an extended line. The EAH-AZ60M2 and flagship EAH-AZ80 premium wireless headphones have just been successfully launched, and here comes the third model. A lighter and more affordable replacement for its EAH-series brethren, the new headphones still promise higher sound quality, improved noise cancellation (ANC) and the impressive ability to connect up to three devices via Bluetooth Multipoint technology, which impressed us so much with the AZ60M2 and AZ80 models.

The EAH-AZ40M2 promise high-quality sound thanks to a 6mm driver, which Panasonic claims delivers “clear sound with a sense of wide range and depth”. The internals of the AZ40M2 are designed to optimize airflow for more natural-sounding vocals, as well as to smooth the high frequencies and create a dynamic range of sound with less distortion. The new headphones also support high-quality audio thanks to the LDAC Bluetooth codec.

Unlike the original Technics EAH-AZ40 headphones , the Mark 2 model has added active noise cancellation to minimize distractions, and you can customize the sound with Natural Ambient Mode or Attention Mode, depending on your surroundings and preferences. The AZ60M2 and AZ80 models had seven different earcup sizes, but the choice of four sizes for the AZ40M2 should provide a reasonably comfortable fit.

A big innovation is multipoint support for three devices, which allows you to quickly switch headphones between, for example, a laptop, smartphone and tablet.

The battery life is 7 hours, the total working time is up to 24 hours using the case, which is roughly equivalent to the EAH-AZ60M2. With active noise cancellation, the headphones provide 5.5 hours of music playback, and a total time of up to 18 hours – using the case. The IPX4 rating provides protection against water splashes from any angle or direction.
