Advance Paris X-P700: Preamp with a high price-quality ratio

Replacing the X-P500, the X-P700 offers technical improvements rarely seen in its class. This is a dual mono design and direct signal processing (Direct Path). In this case, you can choose one of two output schemes: class A mode using bipolars in a two-stage assembly, close to tube sound, and discrete mode based on a JFet differential and a current mirror in bipolars polarized to class AB, more traditional.

The external design is very strict, there is one rotary knob with a press to confirm the choice: access to inputs, volume control, bass/treble, balance or even volume. There is also a remote control that activates these functions remotely. The X-P700 has nine analog inputs, one of which is balanced, plus an MM/MC phono stage. In terms of digital inputs, there are two optical inputs, one coaxial input, one USB-B (Xmos) input, and one USB-A.

The DAC is a Burr Brown PCM 1796 -24bit/192kHz converter. The USB port is equipped with XMOS XU208-128-TQ64 from Texas Instruments. In terms of output, the X-P700 offers RCA or balanced XLR, two subwoofer outputs. For headphones, there are two front inputs (jack 6.35 and 3.5) with double independent gain control +6, 0, -4 dB and switchable output impedance 0 or 100 Ohms.

The front panel of the X-P700 is made from 10mm thick black methacrylate, a characteristic of the Classic Line. Inside are two toroidal transformers feeding a dual mono power supply. The unit has a frequency response (+/-3 dB) of 20 Hz-45 kHz, THD: < 0.007% and S/N ratio: > 103 dB. Net weight: 6.7 kg.
