Audiolab Omnia: Promises to satisfy all audiophile needs

Audiolab Omnia
Audiolab Omnia

Housed in a chic aluminum cabinet with a minimalist design, the Audiolab Omnia amplifier promises to satisfy all audiophile needs – from digital streaming to listening to CDs and vinyl collections. To achieve this, it is equipped with a built-in CD player, an extensive number of inputs for external sources, including a phono stage for a vinyl record player. At the center of the Omnia’s aluminum front panel is a 4.3-inch diagonal full-color screen, ready to display information such as system settings, format data, and track information. It can be configured to display a VU meter in either “analog” or “digital” form, showing real-time decibel levels for the left and right channels.

The class AB power amplifier is built according to the “dual mono” circuit and produces 75 W per channel with a maximum current of up to 15 A. To reduce distortion, separate power circuits are used for the right and left channels. The amplifier’s output stage is based on the CFB (Complementary Feedback) topology in combination with an emitter follower. This design, according to the developers, makes it possible to achieve high linearity and temperature stability. Two mono amplifiers in one housing are supported by a 300 VA toroidal transformer, and each channel has a pair of capacitors with a capacity of 15,000 μF each. And if you wish, you can bypass the individual amplifier stages, giving you the opportunity to connect an external preamp or power amplifier.

An integrated CD player may be unusual for a 2021 music system, but the Audiolab Omnia’s transport mechanism includes a high-precision optical system and low-friction loading tray, with an electronic data buffer and a durable aluminum base and chassis. For vinyl lovers, the built-in MM phono stage features high-quality, low-noise JFET circuitry with accurate RIAA equalization.

The internal circuitry of the Audiolab Omnia DAC is based on the ESS Labs ES9038Q2M chip and supports up to 768kHz/DSD512 sampling of audio files input via Roon-tested and MQA certified USB input; and up to 192 kHz for streams delivered to its coaxial and TOSLINK connectors; or up to 192 kHz for streams output from the network streaming input of a DTS Play-Fi-enabled device.

Streaming on the Audiolab Omnia network is powered by DTS Play-Fi technology, the gateway to a variety of music services including Spotify, Tidal, Amazon Music, Deezer, Qobuz, Audacy, TuneIn, iHeartRadio and SiriusXM. The DTS Play-Fi app (available for iOS or Android) also functions as your trusted music butler, capable of serving up a streaming library stored on a DLNA-compatible NAS drive or media server. Audiolab Omnia also provides full MQA decoding, Tidal’s high-definition streaming technology. But there are other ways to wirelessly stream music to the Audiolab Omnia besides the Play-Fi app! Spotify Connect and Bluetooth 5 with aptX, aptX LL, AAC and SBC codecs, the product is Roon ready.

The Audiolab Omnia also has a full range of inputs for analog and digital sources. Two USB inputs, Type A and Type B, are designed for connection to PCs, Macs, smartphones, tablets and digital storage devices, complemented by four digital S/PDIF inputs (two coaxial and two optical) and an Ethernet port for network connectivity. There are also four stereo RCA analog inputs – three line inputs and one MM input for a turntable. And in addition to a set of gold-plated speaker terminals, there’s a 6.3mm headphone jack on the front panel. Other outputs include a stereo RCA pre-out, as well as coaxial and optical digital outputs.
