Today, Polish audio company Ferrum introduces a unique feature with a new piece of software. With the Wandla Converting Plugin, the original Wandla DA converter can be transformed into a GoldenSound Edition. Owners of the original Wandla can then enjoy all the benefits of Wandla GoldenSoundEdition.
The Wandla GoldenSound Edition was born when the Ferrum Audio development team started implementing new features into the software of the DA converter Wandla in a fruitful collaboration with Cameron Oatley of GoldenSound. The Wandla GoldenSound Edition introduced features that were not present in the original Wandla, such as Spatial Enhancement, Tube Mode and Impact+. Ferrum claims to have sought the best performance from the DSP engine for the new features and were able to retain our proprietary Dynamic Digital Filtering. In addition, the Wandla GoldenSound Edition has increased digital headroom, making it even less susceptible to distortion caused by oversampling.
Owners of the original Wandla can purchase a license for 595 euros and install the Wandla GoldenSound Edition Converting Plugin to convert their unit to the Wandla GoldenSound Edition (which retails for just under 3,300 euros). Most importantly, the Converting Plugin can be removed and installed at will, for users who want to go back to the original functionality and then back to the Wandla GoldenSound Edition. With the Converting Plugin, the owner will own two different Wandlas.
What does the Wandla Converting Plugin bring?
Spatial Enhancement: A unique spatial enhancement to provide an expanded soundstage and improved clarity of separation between musical elements, while avoiding the drawbacks common to other approaches. It has two working modes: headphone mode and speaker mode, which are differently tuned to different use cases.
Tube Mode: A deliberate increase in the even-order harmonic distortion produced by the DAC, similar to the distortion added by a tube amplifier. This allows the user to enjoy a warmer, richer sound without directly changing the frequency response.
Impact+: For those who enjoy a little more low-end in their music listening experience, this feature uses a custom two-band EQ that not only boosts bass but also provides added punch and dynamic impact.
