Upon initial inspection of the modern JBL L42ms all-in-one music processor, it’s evident that this model serves as a more compact and potentially more affordable counterpart to the L75ms. Sporting a similar curved profile, Quadrex grill, and natural walnut veneer finish, the L42ms also introduces a sleek black variant alongside its classic design. Announced six months ago, this newcomer boasts a maximum power output of up to 200 W and features a low-frequency switch to optimize speaker placement in relation to walls, as well as a sound field expansion mode.
According to company representatives, the L42ms offers nearly all the functionalities of its predecessor while occupying less space and now being available in an additional color option. The introduction of the black variant is particularly noteworthy, as it enhances versatility and integration with various interior designs.
The JBL L42ms audio system offers a wide array of connectivity options, including analog stereo inputs (RCA and 3.5 mm) alongside a 24-bit/96 kHz DAC accessible via Toslink or HDMI ARC. Wired Ethernet connection is supported by a Wi-Fi module, and it features Apple Airplay 2 and built-in Google Chromecast for seamless streaming. Additionally, it supports Spotify Connect and Tidal Connect, provides access to Amazon Music and Qobuz, as well as podcasts and Internet radio. UPnP is available in local networks, and USB drives can be accessed through the USB-A connector. Bluetooth connectivity is also included.
The L42ms is designated as Roon Ready and holds Samsung “Smart Things” certification, facilitating integration into the ecosystem of the same name and allowing connectivity to Galaxy devices, TVs, and other Samsung household appliances. Control options include a wireless remote control and the JBL Premium Audio application.
The product is scheduled for release by the end of March and will be priced at $1,000.
