Leema Acoustics Quantum Series: Neutron preamp and Graviton amplifier

UK-based Leema Acoustics has launched a new range of audio components for the first time in more than 10 years . It’s called Quantum, and the names of its first products are also associated with fundamental physics: the Neutron preamplifier and the Graviton power amplifier. It’s all designed and manufactured at Welshpool’s factory in Powys, Wales.

The Quantum concept is based on the technology of the flagship Constellation series, but in more affordable versions. Leema Acoustics co-founder Lee Taylor said: “The Quantum borrows heavily from the design of the Constellation Leema Acoustics product, but has been simplified to provide a more affordable price. But where it really mattered there were no compromises.”

The Neutron preamplifier, in addition to the on-board DAC, was equipped with 13 audio inputs. These include four XLR analog stereo inputs, a switchable MM/MC phono stage, three optical and three coaxial digital audio inputs, and a USB DAC based on the ESS chipset with a resolution of up to 24-bit/192 kHz. In addition to the linear recording output with a fixed level, there are also two subwoofer outputs. In addition, the preamp includes a separate headphone amplifier and a 12V trigger.

The Graviton stereo power amplifier, according to the manufacturer, is equipped with “one of the largest toroidal transformers in its price category.” The circuit operates in class A/B and produces up to 150 W of power per channel into an 8 ohm load. Switching provides, in addition to two-channel amplification, two-wire connection of acoustics. Quantum Series models are available in matte black or silver finishes.

In the UK, Leema Acoustics’ Neutron preamp and Graviton stereo end cost £1,500 each, saving £200 by buying both as a set.
