McIntosh C2800: Roon Tested Vacuum Tube Preamplifier

McIntosh has broadened its lineup with the introduction of the C2800 tube preamplifier alongside the transistor-based C55 model. This new addition marries contemporary technology with superior construction and a carefully considered design aesthetic, highlighted by the brand’s signature illuminated logo.

Powered by four vacuum tubes, including three 12AX7A tubes and one 12AT7, the C2800 leverages advancements in technology to achieve remarkably low distortion and noise levels. It features precise electronic bass and treble adjustments in 1 dB increments.

Equipped with its own DAC, the McIntosh C2800 boasts 16 inputs, with nine being analog and the remaining seven digital, the latter supporting up to 24-bit/192 kHz resolution. The device is also compatible with bi-amping setups. On its rear panel, users will find three pairs of both balanced and unbalanced outputs, in addition to a headphone jack enhanced with HXD technology.

McIntosh has reintroduced the processor loop feature in this new preamplifier, enabling the connection of external equalizers or signal processors. An eco-friendly power function automatically shuts off the amplifier after thirty minutes of inactivity.
