Pioneer X-HM86D: Impressive microsystem

The appearance of the microsystem balances between classic home audio models and high-tech products. The former is referred to by the classic body shape, large volume control drum and CD drive tray, the latter by the absence of unnecessary controls and a large 3.5-inch color display. It is used to configure the microsystem, display service information, as well as track names, artist names and covers. The Pioneer XC-HM86D is available in two color options with a silver or black metal body with beautiful brushed finishes.

On the front panel of the XC-HM86D, in addition to the screen and volume control, there is a USB port for connecting flash drives or hard drives with a music collection, a power indicator and a timer. Most of the Pioneer XC-HM86D’s controls are located on the top of the microsystem: there are buttons for turning on, selecting a sound source, rewinding, playing and opening the CD drive. They will have to be used extremely rarely, so the very fact of their presence can rather be called a tribute to classical solutions rather than a necessity. In most cases, you will control the Pioneer XC-HM86D from a smartphone or use the included remote control – it’s easier and faster.

The Pioneer XC-HM86D remote control has a classic design and button layout; anyone who uses modern TV models can handle it, adjusted for the lack of a number key block. The initial setup, which means connecting to the network and viewing available options, must be done from the remote control. In the future, if you don’t want to come within range of the infrared port every time, you can use the application for iOS and Android. It has everything you need to control: selecting sources and ports, rewinding tracks, adjusting the volume, and so on.

On the rear panel, screw terminals are provided for connecting speaker cables – a convenient and reliable mounting method that comes from higher-end devices. The necessary cables are already included. The mono output from the preamplifier suggests the ability to complement the system with an active subwoofer, which will be appreciated by fans of hard rock and some genres of electronic music. Also on the back of the microsystem there is a second USB port, Ethernet for a wired connection to the network, a connector for a radio antenna, a linear analog stereo input with RCA connectors and a digital optical port for connecting the XC-HM86D to a TV, game consoles and other equipment. To use the network functions of the microsystem, it is possible to connect an Ethernet cable, but the best choice would be a Wi-Fi wireless network, since it provides data transfer via AirPlay from Apple mobile devices, allows you to move the XC-HM86D if necessary, and also eliminates unnecessary wires.

The Pioneer XC-HM86D supports Bluetooth connectivity for playing music from smartphones, tablets and computers, AirPlay for Apple equipment, work with home media centers, as well as Spotify, Tidal, Deezer and TuneIn Internet radio services. Thus, the owner of the Pioneer XC-HM86D will not be limited only to CDs or connecting external media; the microsystem supports almost all possible sources for playing music. Thanks to this, the Pioneer XC-HM86D is superior in terms of ease of use to both classic audio systems without a built-in network player, and wireless speakers with Bluetooth connectivity.
