Shanling MCD1.3: Multifunctional CD player with streaming functions

Shanling has announced the MCD1.3, a CD player with streaming functions that can also serve as a preamplifier. The MCD1.3 is a compact device with a Philips drive on board.

Shanling MCD1.3: For playing CDs and other digital sources

The new MCD1.3 is similar to the previous SCD1.3. The difference is that the MCD1.3 cannot play Super Audio CDs. The fan base of SACDs is small, so it made sense to remove these features to produce a cheaper device.

Enter the MCD1.3. The new Shanling MCD1.3 multifunctional CD player can also function as a streaming client, serves as a DA converter and also as a preamplifier. The device can also play MQA CDs, but these are hardly available outside Japan. The device has digital inputs but no analog inputs.

Shanling MCD1.3: Ingenic X2000 platform

The heart of the new Shanling MCD1.3 multifunction CD player is Ingenic Semiconductor’s Ingenic X2000 platform. A five-inch touch screen with a resolution of 854 x 358 pixels is mounted on the front, as well as a rotary knob and a few push buttons. The buyer also gets an IR remote control and there is a suitable app.

Connection to a network can only be made via Wi-Fi, not with a cable. Airplay, and DLNA are supported, as well as playing music from a NAS. Bluetooth connectivity is fitted (version 5.0) with support for the SBC, AC, aptX HD and LDAC codecs. The DA converter comes from AKM and is of the type AK4499EX. The preamp circuit is based on a Muses 8920 chip.

Analog music signal is output via XLR and cinch output. The headphone output on the front is powered by a TPA5120 from Texas Instruments that can deliver 1.1 Watts at 32 Ohms and 153 mW at 300 Ohms

Delivery will start in June.
