The TEAC CR-H101 CD Receiver is designed as a high-resolution USB DAC and CD player in one, using advanced audio technologies developed over many years. Featuring a 192kHz/24-bit USB DAC, the TEAC CR-H101 supports playback of a variety of sources, including PC/Mac, CD, Bluetooth and FM radio. Milled aluminum panels with a thickness of 5 mm at the front and 3 mm at the sides and top increase structural rigidity and resistance to vibration, and protect against interference. The front panel is decorated with vertical knobs, like those of professional high-end equipment, and the input selector switch and volume control are machined from solid aluminum, which gives the owner the feeling of owning a cool and solid device.
For the DAC, the TEAC CR-H101 uses the Burr Brown PCM1795 chip, which is characterized by a wide dynamic range and low distortion, often used in high-end digital-to-analog converters. Previously, the same chip was installed in the UD-501 and UD-301 DACs. The TPA3118 power amplifier from Texas Instruments operates in a highly efficient Class D design and delivers 2 x 26 W into 4 ohms. In addition to a pair of speakers like the LS-101HR, specially designed for the CR-H101, the amplifier can successfully work with higher-end bookshelf speakers.
To stream audio files from Windows computers, you need to install a driver, but for Mac OS computers it is not needed; in addition, for iOS devices you will need a 30-pin/Lightning – USB (female) adapter, and for Android devices – an OTG cable. The high-quality Bluetooth receiver supports, in addition to the popular SBC codec, aptX® and AAC, which ensures playback from smartphones and tablets. The built-in FM DAB tuner with RDS support has a memory for 20 radio stations but only works in Europe.
There is a function for reclocking digital signals with frequencies less than 96 kHz, allowing you to listen to CDs, Bluetooth and even radio broadcasts with much higher quality.
The USB interface supports asynchronous data transfer with resolutions up to 192kHz/24-bit, providing effective jitter suppression. Two clock generators with quartz stabilization of frequencies, multiples of 44.1 kHz and 48 kHz, also increase the conversion accuracy. The built-in DSP processor implements the “HR loudness” loudness function, ensuring optimal matching of the LS-101HR speaker systems with the amplifier. This ensures powerful bass and clear highs at both high and low volumes. This function works not only for digital, but also for analog sources.
