TEAC UD-701N

TEAC UD-701N is the flagship product that implements and combines the functions of a DAC, network streaming player, analog preamplifier, headphone amplifier and some others at the highest level. It is based on the recently developed TEAC Delta-Sigma DAC (ΔΣ – DeltaSigma) on discrete elements. There are two clock generators on board for signals multiple of 44.1 and 48 kHz, and an external clock (10 MHz) can be connected via the BNC port to reduce jitter. For PCM, you can use one of five disconnectable digital filters, and for the DSD stream there are two filters to choose from. The DAC is equipped with an upsampler that increases the PCM resolution to 32 bits / 384 kHz and converts PCM to DSD (up to 24.5 MHz).

The balanced circuitry of the model corresponds to the “dual mono” principle. Each channel is powered by a separate toroidal transformer, and a digital isolator protects analog circuits from noise generated by digital signal sources and other circuits. The analog section has four buffer discrete high-current amplification stages (TEAC-HCLD technology), guaranteeing a wide dynamic range. Two of them are used for the balanced output, and the other two are for the RCA output. The model has a high-precision step volume control TEAC-QVCS, which changes the voltage at the linear output, and also participates in adjusting the volume level of the built-in HCLD headphone amplifier. For headphones, there are two 6.3 mm jacks and a 4.4 mm 5-pin balanced Pentaconn connector. With a symmetrical connection, active grounding is used, suppressing noise generated by the power supply.

The aluminum case of the DAC has a pleasant functional design. The thick sides have miniature handles, like in rack-mounted equipment, and three support legs are equipped with cone-shaped spikes and heels for vibration isolation from the installation surface. On the front, in addition to two headphone jacks, there is a combined USB port for playing content from flash drives. On the back side there are balanced and unbalanced outputs, an analog RCA input, as well as coaxial and optical inputs, BNC for an external clock and a USB port for connecting external hard drives. The TEAC UD-701N model is equipped with a Bluetooth module that supports LDAC and aptX HD codecs, allowing you to get sound close in quality to Hi-Res formats.

The TEAC UD-701N can not only be used for all types of digital playback of signals from PC or Mac-based systems to audio servers using NAS storage and streaming, but can also play a key role in audio systems as a preamplifier with analog and digital inputs.
