The Onkyo TX-8390 two-channel receiver features a 5mm thick extruded aluminum front panel and features a massive high-current power transformer, audio-specific capacitors, phase-shift-free amplifier circuitry that delivers wide frequency range, low distortion and a well-focused soundstage, and also a discrete transistor output stage. The model produces 200 W per channel at 6 ohms, has extensive switching capabilities and features support for a variety of wireless technologies.
The Onkyo TX-8390 is Onkyo’s first stereo receiver to feature AccuEQ acoustic calibration, originally designed for multi-channel AV receivers and now adapted for stereo models. AccuEQ creates a harmonious sound field in spaces of any size and shape. After determining the speaker sizes and distances from the measurement location and setting sound pressure levels, the system itself selects a crossover for the subwoofer and applies equalization. The resulting sound compares favorably to an acoustically treated listening environment.
The Onkyo TX-8390 features a state-of-the-art AK4458 DAC that supports 384 kHz/32-bit digital-to-analog conversion, followed by a VLSC filter that suppresses impulse noise and ultra-high frequency interference. Supports dual-band Wi-Fi for a more reliable connection, AirPlay and Bluetooth. With a wired connection via a LAN port over a local network, playback of Hi-Res formats stored on computers and servers on this network is available, such as PCM up to 24 bit/192 kHz and DSD up to 5.6 MHz (in PCM conversion mode). There is a built-in FM tuner with RDS, digital radio, web radio and various Internet services are supported. The Onkyo TX-8390 receiver works with Sonos, Chromecast built-in, DTS Play-Fi, AirPlay 2, FlareConnect, Spotify, Amazon Music, TIDAL, Deezer, TuneIn. The receiver includes voice control for audio playback using Google Assistant or Siri-enabled devices.
The built-in Chromecast streaming platform allows you to stream music via the app to a receiver, wireless speakers and other devices without using a cable. With the new software, the receiver will be able to support FireConnect, a technology specially developed for wireless installation that allows you to broadcast audio in fairly high quality from any source (including a vinyl player) without the use of wires to any room with a specialized speaker system installed there. At the same time, the proprietary Onkyo Controller application makes it possible to combine such speakers into groups and control music playback throughout the house. MQA codec support available. Despite the fact that in the case of the Onkyo TX-8390 we are dealing with a stereo receiver, it has an automatic calibration system AccuEQ.
The developers equipped the Onkyo TX-8270 with six HDMI inputs and two HDMI outputs (with support for a return channel, which is convenient when working in conjunction with a TV). All ports are version 2.0a and support HDCP 2.3, 4K video (60 Hz), 3D, HDR, Dolby Vision, DSD file transfer and other functions. There is upscaling from 1080p to 4K with HDMI resolution. The model has two USB ports for external storage devices, blocks of linear and digital inputs, an MM phono stage and two connectors for subwoofers. Four pairs of screw terminals are used to connect the speakers.
The receiver also has a Pre-Amp Mode and a Front Pre-Out output for an external power amplifier. They can also function as Zone 2 line outputs for distributed digital/analog audio, including HDMI and SPDIF, thanks to a separate Zone 2 DAC. Pure Audio mode disables all non-vital circuitry for interference-free audio authentic to the source.
