Onkyo TX-RZ3400: AV Receiver with state-of-the-art features

The top model of the Onkyo TX-RZ3400 AV receiver has a full range of state-of-the-art features, and also develops serious output power for sound in large rooms. The device is certified according to the THX Certified Ultra standard, which means it can be used in the highest class home theaters. The Onkyo TX-RZ3400 receiver features 9-point room acoustic calibration with AccuReflex, Discrete Audio Path mode disables the HDMI output when connected to a BD player with two HDMI outputs, reducing noise. Chromecast built-in supports voice-controlled multi-room audio streaming via Google Assistant-enabled devices. The receiver also works with Sonos, which is certified for the Sonos Home Sound System.

The Onkyo TX-RZ3400 has an 11.2 configuration, that is, it is one of the most power-efficient devices in its class. The AV receiver is equipped with a custom high-power transformer, and a low-noise fan is used to more effectively remove heat from the output stages operating in a patented extra-current mode. The sound path of the TX-RZ3400 uses many technical solutions developed for Onkyo High-End audio equipment – a volume control circuit with optimized gain, VLSC low-noise conversion technology, separate power circuits for analog and digital circuits.

The device is equipped with a DAC based on AK4490 chips (for front stereo channels) with parameters of 32 bit / 384 kHz. The receiver has an extruded aluminum radiator with a heat-dissipating aluminite coating. The Onkyo TX-RZ3400 uses two new features to achieve even higher sound quality. In “Audio Exclusive Mode,” the HDMI video signal is turned off to concentrate on audio quality. “AV Direct Mode” disables the network function and specializes in audio and video playback. In addition to high-resolution audio source (192 kHz / 24-bit) in FLAC, WAV, AIFF and ALAC file formats, DSD files (2.8 / 5.6 MHz / 11.2 MHz) are also supported.

The Onkyo TX-RZ3400 AV receiver supports almost all surround sound formats available today, including object-based Dolby Atmos, IMAX and DTS:X. Based on this model, it is possible to build systems in configurations up to 7.2.4 without additional external amplifiers, and a special DTS Neural:X processor is capable of generating virtual height channels for audio tracks in 5.1/7.1 formats. To fine-tune your surround sound, the TX-RZ3400 uses an advanced auto-calibration system with AccuReflex for Dolby Atmos/DTS:X.

The AV receiver is equipped with seven HDMI inputs and three outputs with support for HDCP 2.3 and HDR/Ultra HD/4.4.4. The device has a wide range of digital and analog inputs and outputs, including a built-in phono stage for MM pickups, an 11.2 processor output, an RS232 connector, and a USB port for external drives. The TX-RZ3400 supports a full range of network music functions (PCM up to 24-bit/192 kHz and DSD up to 11.2 MHz), with network connectivity via both Ethernet and Wi-Fi. Wireless connection options also include built-in Bluetooth and support for AirPlay 2 technology. The signal from the AV receiver can be transmitted to sound two additional zones.

For all its complexity, the Onkyo TX-RZ3400 receiver is very easy to use. The high-definition graphical interface has a transparent OSD overlay – both for settings in the main menu and in the quick menu for adjustments within programs. There are standby modes that allow the receiver to wake-on-play over a network or using Bluetooth wireless technology. The receiver is equipped with bidirectional serial ports RS-232 and Ethernet for IP control; while an assignable 12V trigger output, IR input and optional rack-mount kit allow for discreet installation away from the TV. Details like quality clear speaker terminals, component and composite video inputs, anti-resonance mounts, and an HDMI input behind a flip-up door demonstrate that the Onkyo TX-RZ3400 is a receiver that’s ready for anything.
