Pioneer VSX-835 and VSX-535 AV receivers: Ultra HD, IMAX, and 165-watt amplifiers

Pioneer has recently unveiled its latest AV receivers, the VSX-835 and VSX-535. In light of the significant challenges faced by Pioneer/Onkyo this year, VOXX International Corporation made an announcement that its subsidiary, Premium Audio Company, now owns the Onkyo and Integra brands. Furthermore, Premium Audio Company will handle the marketing and sales of Pioneer and Pioneer Elite products worldwide, except for China where the two brands will be sold separately.

These new additions, the VSX-835 and VSX-535, both offer impressive features such as 7.2-channel and 5.2-channel configurations respectively. Notably, they come equipped with the same terminals. These receivers are capable of delivering a peak power of 165 watts into 6-ohm speakers, or a commendable 80 watts when driving two channels simultaneously (20 Hz – 20 kHz, 0.08% THD in stereo mode into 8 ohms).

Pioneer VSX-835, has advanced IMAX certification, works with Dolby Atmos and Dolby Surround, DTS Virtual:X via HDMI 2.1 with 8K/4K support. You can create 7.2 or 5.2.2 systems that are calibrated with Pioneer’s MCACC (Multi-Channel Acoustic Calibration) software using a dedicated Auto Room Tuning microphone. In addition to DTS:X, the VSX-835 also supports DTS Virtual:X, as well as Dolby Atmos Height Virtualizer, adding three-dimensional sound without overhead or rear sources.

The second model, the Pioneer VSX-535, also decodes Dolby Atmos and Dolby Surround sources and supports HDMI 2.1 with 4K/120Hz and 8K. It implements 5.2 configurations, and an extended IMAX mode is also available.

Both models have full HDR video support, including HDR10, HLG, Dolby Vision and BT.2020. Both models support 4:4:4 color space. The VSX-835 and VSX-535 have four inputs and one output (eARC). Also, both new products have a built-in Bluetooth module.

In the US, the price of Pioneer AV receivers is $500 for the VSX-835 and $380 for the VSX-535.
