Amphion One25A3: 3-way active studio monitors

Amphion One25A is the first active studio monitor from the Finnish loudspeaker maker

The Amphion One25A marks the debut of the Finnish loudspeaker manufacturer’s first active studio monitor. Historically, the company has focused on passive speakers since its inception, consistently pairing them with a dedicated amplifier housed in a separate black enclosure. This same approach is applied to the One25A. “While some might find the launch of an active product from Amphion unexpected, it is important to note that the One25A features an active 3-band high-resolution filter, which is a natural evolution from the active 2-band filters utilized in our core systems since 2015. Our design philosophy prioritizes results over technology, allowing us to adopt the most suitable methods for each specific product,” states Amphion CEO Anssi Hyvönen.

The compact monitor features a sealed dual-chamber architecture that separates the low and mid-range frequencies, incorporating Amphion’s patented 5th generation U/D/D (uniformly directed diffusion) technology. According to the company, this design results in “a precise and melodious reference monitor that delivers the speed and accuracy that users have come to expect from Amphion.” The monitor is equipped with a 1-inch titanium tweeter, a 5.25-inch aluminum midrange driver, and a 10-inch woofer, with crossover frequencies set at 100 Hz and 2,000 Hz.

“To ensure optimal signal integrity and sonic clarity, Amphion emphasizes a minimalist approach to crossover design. Leveraging the 2-way active circuit from Amphion’s base units, this active 3-way monitor offers mastering-level resolution. Key attributes such as wide bandwidth, absence of higher-order distortion or crossover, and a superior signal-to-noise ratio contribute to a rich and effortless listening experience,” the developers explain.

The amplifier provides 700 watts for the bass and 2 x 205 watts for the tweeter and midrange. Hyvönen states, “At Amphion, we understand that capturing the beauty and emotional resonance of sound involves more than merely pursuing the latest technological advancements; listening plays a crucial role in our development process.” All Amphion products are manufactured in Finland.
