Bowers & Wilkins’ 600 Anniversary Edition Series features four models that combine advanced technology with understated styling, adding a new Oak option to complement the existing MatteBlack and MatteWhite finishes. .
All Anniversary Edition speakers feature a new holiday logo emblazoned on the tweeter surround, in either a light or dark finish, depending on the color of the rest of the speaker. Improved acoustic performance is achieved through upgraded crossovers in each model. Each uses Mundorf’s new and significantly improved bypass capacitors, originally installed in the recently released 700 Signature Series . In addition, the main high-frequency and mid-frequency capacitors have also been upgraded. The result is significant improvement in resolution and clarity across all 600 Series anniversary speakers.
The Bowers & Wilkins 603 S2 Anniversary Edition floor-standing speakers are the largest in their series and are capable of delivering high sound pressure even in a large room. This acoustics has a three-way configuration, with a separate mid-range speaker, making its sound completely balanced throughout the entire range. The relatively large body of the Bowers & Wilkins 603 S2 is made of MDF and reinforced with internal partitions to eliminate wall vibration. To give the Bowers & Wilkins 603 S2 the necessary stability, they are equipped with a solid base. To install the speakers, the kit includes two types of supports – spikes and semicircular damping ones, the choice of which depends on the type of floor covering.
The speaker system has two 6.5-inch woofers with paper-Kevlar cones. The speakers are equipped with elastic suspension and a powerful magnetic system, and their molded baskets have excellent anti-vibration characteristics. The woofers are precisely matched to the Bowers & Wilkins 603 S2 Anniversary Edition cabinet and are loaded onto a patented Flowport bass reflex with an output port located on the rear panel. The 6-inch midrange driver is equipped with a Continuum cone, but in this case it is mounted on an FST rigid surround. This is a solution that the company traditionally uses in its mid-range speakers, and it helps reduce sound distortion.
The tweeter in the Bowers & Wilkins 603 S2 is the same as in the other models in the series. It is equipped with a double aluminum dome with mechanical decoupling Decoupled Dual Dome and operates in an extended frequency range. All drivers in the speaker are precisely matched to each other and connected to a crossover filter made from audiophile-grade components. Fine tuning of the filter made it possible to obtain an almost linear response of the Bowers & Wilkins 603 S2 over the entire frequency range. Additionally, its stable impedance makes this speaker an easy load for any modern integrated amplifier or AV receiver.
The input connector block of the Bowers & Wilkins 603 S2 Anniversary Edition provides the possibility of a two-cable connection, which will certainly be appreciated by the most demanding audiophiles in terms of sound quality. The B&W 603 is great for listening to music of all genres, and will also be an excellent basis for a high-end home theater system.
