Bowers & Wilkins Formation Bass: Powerful active subwoofer

Bowers & Wilkins Formation Bass
Bowers & Wilkins Formation Bass

The Bowers & Wilkins Formation Bass active subwoofer is made in a barrel-shaped housing, which not only gives it an original appearance, but also works perfectly as an acoustic load for bass speakers. This form of housing eliminates resonances and internal standing waves, and its ability to withstand wall vibration is significantly higher than that of traditional rectangular designs.

At the same time, it features dual driver technology to reduce distortion, while a powerful 250-watt Class D amplifier with dynamic EQ delivers clear, crisp sound. The body shape also helps reduce unwanted resonances.

The subwoofer is equipped with a pair of woofers with paper-Kevlar (with an outer aluminum layer) cones with a diameter of 6.5 inches, directed in opposite directions. Their synchronous operation allows you to optimize the load on the body, and make the distribution of bass in the room as uniform as possible. The speakers are powered by a high-efficiency IcePower Class D amplifier that delivers 250W of output power and low heat dissipation. The subwoofer plays from 20 Hz to 150 Hz. It communicates wirelessly with the speakers, and Bowers & Wilkins assures that their proprietary network does not allow signal delays. A dynamic equalizer is provided for more precise sound adjustment.

The subwoofer’s sound is controlled by DSP, which allows you to precisely adjust the Bowers & Wilkins Formation Bass parameters depending on the acoustic properties of specific rooms. The subwoofer has a memory for five custom settings that can be activated with the touch of a button.

Connecting the subwoofer to the Formation system is done using an application available for iOS and Android. The device is optimally coordinated to work with Formation series speaker systems: Duo, Bar soundbar and Wedge speakers. Automatic sound equalization system – all system components will be optimally configured. This sub can be used to create both stereo and multi-channel audio systems.
