Canton Smart GLE 9

Canton offers a new revolutionary solution in the floor-standing active speaker segment: Canton Smart GLE 9 Active floor-standing active speaker systems. Traditionally, for the GLE series, designers do not try to surprise with the sophistication of stylistic solutions – this is not an art object designed to focus attention on itself, but simply nice, neat speakers. The front panel is covered with a matte black lacquer, which echoes the contrasting texture pattern of the rest of the body –  Despite the visual brightness, the silver driver diffusers and the milled company logo harmoniously complement the appearance of the speakers.

The Canton Smart GLE 9 Active speaker cabinets are made in a traditional form factor from massive MDF boards and are well damped. The thickness of the front panel is 22.5 mm. Tapping did not reveal any significant after-sounds. The speakers are equipped with four speakers: a pair of 200 mm low-frequency drivers with metal diffusers on a rubber surround, a 180 mm midrange driver with a metal diffuser also on a rubber surround, and a 25 mm tweeter with a metal dome. The latter is placed in a small horn.

Canton Smart GLE 9 Active is an improved edition of the previous series. First of all, the modification affected the midrange and bass drivers. The design of the polycarbonate basket was changed, the suspensions had another wave, and the magnetic system was also modified to achieve an increased stroke of the diffusers. Tweeters have changed even more. The impregnated textile dome gave way to a metal one, made of an alloy of aluminum and manganese, lightweight, strong and durable due to its special resistance to intercrystalline corrosion. The dome is protected by a perforated metal mesh, under which the aperture body installed in the center is clearly visible.

Active, premium wireless systems Canton Smart GLE 9 Active are ideal for high-quality stereo music playback, and integrated multi-channel decoders make it possible to play almost all modern audio formats. Thanks to built-in high-quality amplifiers, the system can be expanded to create a 4.0 home cinema experience.

Numerous input interfaces on the Canton Smart GLE 9 Active allow you to connect almost any device directly to the system: analog balanced XLR and line RCA inputs for connecting classic sources, while the use of a USB input with an XMOS driver guarantees playback in High Resolution quality. You can connect your TV, Blu-Ray player or any other player directly using the optical or coaxial input. Canton Smart GLE 9 Active systems also provide outstanding sound quality for movie soundtracks. Thanks to high-quality amplifiers built into each speaker, 24-bit processing, and innovative solutions of the Vento series, systems are able to reproduce powerful high-end sound. As part of the new Canton Smart family, these models are ideal for music streaming.

These speakers can be used as regular active monitors by feeding an analog signal from a pre- or source with an adjustable output to the RCA or XLR terminals that are provided on each speaker – both on the leading “master” and on the slave model. And last time we made sure that this option is perhaps the most musically advanced – the same sound quality is achieved as from professional studio monitors. You can also use digital inputs (coaxial or optical) – this option will become the main one for our setup, since it allows you to easily connect the panel and, if desired, a BD player (cables no longer need to be connected to each speaker – just to the “master” is enough) ). Finally, there are options: starting a signal from a computer via USB or from any mobile gadget via Bluetooth. So in total we already get six sources – all are selected from the remote control of the speakers.

With its help and the not very informative “three-digit” LCD display that is on each speaker, you will have to carry out the initial setup process, which, to be honest, is not easy to do without instructions and due attention. However, this procedure is performed only once, and in fact it is much clearer than the terrifying “tree” of the entire algorithm that is depicted on paper. For example, the most complex procedure for wirelessly pairing speakers into a multi-channel configuration is done stupidly step by step: turn on the master speaker, call up the pairing mode and assign a channel, then turn on the second speaker and assign its channel, then repeat this with the third “slave”, with the fourth, etc. .d. Since the Canton Smart family is based on an 8-channel digital platform, one “master” can “distribute” a signal to seven more active systems, and there is no need to think about matching crossover frequencies – this is done systematically, without your participation.

All that remains is to set the levels and actual distances to the speakers. As a result, connecting and configuring the entire system takes much less time than a traditional multi-channel system with a set of passive acoustics and an AV receiver, which, as a rule, begins with the tedious process of connecting all the speaker cables, a long walk through the multi-line menu of the bass manager and ends with a multi-stage auto-calibration procedure followed by correction. In our case, we generally do without the above. You can also calculate the savings: from the budget we exclude the cost of all speaker cables, blades and “bananas” for them, as well as the cost of the AV receiver itself and, as further listening showed, the subwoofer too, since the Canton Smart GLE 9 Active is replaced twice and in exhaustive volume.
