Klipsch R-51PM: High-quality active bookshelf speakers

The Klipsch R-51PM active bookshelf monitors from the Reference series provide high-quality surround sound without taking up much space. The model has a minimalist design with a striking black vinyl finish and a well-damped MDF body. The round bass reflex port is located at the rear of the speaker.

High frequencies are handled by an inch compression tweeter with an aluminum membrane, “hidden” in the proprietary Tractrix horn. For the midrange and bass, a 5.25-inch magnetically shielded driver is used, the hard cone of which is made of IMG (cast graphite) and coated with a copper layer.

The two speakers share the roles of master (right) and slave (left) speakers. The latter is connected to the former using the supplied speaker cord through screw terminals. On board the lead speaker there are low-noise amplifiers specially designed for this model, which produce 50 W per channel, as well as a rear plate with controls and switching. There are a pair of RCA sockets that can be used not only as a regular Line input, but also as Phono connectors for the Klipsch R-51PM’s built-in phono stage. To select between Line and Phono, use the adjacent slider selector. There are also 3.5mm Aux, Optical and USB inputs for PC/Mac (up to 24bit/96kHz). The Sub Out output, to which an active subwoofer is connected, allows you to increase the bass potential of the model.

The bookshelf does not require any additional settings and can work with virtually any source – a TV, smartphone, vinyl player or computer. For wireless communication, the Klipsch R-51PM is equipped with a Bluetooth receiver.

The Klipsch R-51PM bookshelf speaker system allows you to do without a massive, clumsy AV receiver without losing sound quality. To control the speaker, you use a simple compact remote control the size of a credit card, which is included in the kit. You can also change the volume level of the connected subwoofer using the remote control. To make it easier to select the desired signal source, there is an LED indicator on the front panel of the right speaker, which signals in the appropriate color when a particular source is selected. If necessary, the indicator can be turned off.
