Swedish speaker manufacturer QLN has launched a new floorstanding speaker. The new Reference 9 is a three-way system and it weighs 65 kilograms.
QLN Reference 9
Sweden-based Qln says it prioritizes designing speakers that faithfully reproduce the human voice and natural instruments. It’s the balance between driver size, cone material and cone weight that determines how a speaker will sound and perform. For Qln, the integration and coordination between all components in a loudspeaker is the most important thing in music reproduction. “We don’t want to listen to any aspect of the speaker. We just want to listen to music and get as close to the original recording as possible. The Reference 9 embodies these principles better than any loudspeaker we’ve ever made.”
The housing of the Reference 9 is made of 40 millimeter thick Qboard. This is a sandwich design with a viscoelastic damping layer. The woofer has a nine-inch diameter cone made of carbon fiber. The seven-inch midrange has a cone made of Kevlar. The tweeter has a diameter of 25 millimeters. The fabric dome can display frequencies up to above 30 kHz.
Qln has applied a 6 dB crossover between midrange and tweeter. The filter is built using a copper foil capacitor, low-loss copper foil coils and non-inductive high power resistors.
