Audio-Technica has launched what it calls an exciting new addition to its portfolio of direct-drive turntables, the AT-LP8X. Combining the reliability and precision of a direct-drive motor with the ease of operation of a semi-automatic system, the AT-LP8X allows audiophile listeners and vinyl enthusiasts to enjoy not only refined and detailed audio, but also a high level of ease of use.

Inspired by the classic Audio-Technica models of the 1960s and 1970s, the new turntable features the J-shaped aluminum tonearm. The newly designed tonearm lifter automatically rises at the end of the record and switches off the motor, a rarity in direct-drive turntables. This not only reduces the risk of unnecessary needle wear or damage, but also allows users to enjoy a comfortable and trouble-free listening experience.

In addition, the tonearm is equipped with the brand new AT-LT10 arm head, which is being launched simultaneously with the AT-LP8X. According to the manufacturer, this arm head (headshell) is a tribute to Audio-Technica’s rich turntable history and provides the connection to the black AT-VM95E MM cartridge, for exceptional tonal quality.

The robust chassis is made of MDF and is equipped with adjustable feet. The turntable is made of cast aluminum and is 25 millimeters thick. Together with the 2.5 millimeter thick rubber mat, unwanted noise and vibrations are largely dampened, so that users can enjoy their music in the most subtle details.

Users who want to customize their listening experience can also replace the stylus or swap it with one of the five styli from the VM95 series. In addition, the tonearm’s vertical tracking angle (VTA) and sub-counterweight can be adjusted, allowing for a variety of other turntable cartridges to be used.
