Marantz TT-15S1: The perfect turntable to any audiophile’s home audio system

The Marantz TT-15S1 features a massive premium-style acrylic chassis, a massive 30mm platter also precision machined from acrylic and a felt cover, massive aluminum mounts, and advanced ceramic bearings so that chassis resonances are almost completely eliminated. The exclusive Marantz MM cartridge is housed in an ebony body and connected with premium interconnects to minimize signal resistance. Its anodized tonearm is optimized to be the ideal partner for your turntable. The engine is damped and isolated from the chassis to prevent vibrations. The Clever clamp is an ingenious device for securing records to a disc that improves soundstage fidelity and detail reproduction. The magnetic anti-skating system is non-contact to eliminate unwanted stress on the stylus, and the homogeneous polished silicone belt ensures precise rotation. The TT-15S1 represents an invaluable addition to any audiophile’s home audio system.

The Marantz TT-15S1 vinyl player was created by the Marantz brand in collaboration with the respected German company Clearaudio Electronic. The component belongs to the branded Premium series. The prototype was the popular Clearaudio Emotion model.

At first glance, the device impresses with its magnificent, sophisticated design. The resonance-resistant, sleek white acrylic base with a sculpted front cutout and Marantz logo sits on three heavy-duty, adjustable aluminum feet that anchor it from the surface. The 30mm thick platter, made from GS-PMMA acrylic, CNC machined and fitted with a felt mat, uses a high-precision ceramic bearing for its rotation. The kit also includes a special Clever Clamp from Southern Engineering that fits onto the spindle axis to securely hold the vinyl record. This also improves sound resolution. The AC induction motor, completely separated from the housing, is placed in a steel case with round legs and inserted into the hole located on the left side of the table so as not to touch its edges. A durable, seamless silicone belt is placed on one of the two motor pulley blocks, transmitting torque to the support disk. Switching between speeds of 33.3 or 45 rpm is done manually by throwing the belt onto the appropriate block. An optional standard of 78 rpm is available, but for this you will need to purchase a separate additional pulley. On the motor casing there is a power button and a socket for connecting the power cable.

The Marantz TT-15S1 vinyl turntable is equipped with a high-quality Clearaudio Virtuoso MM cartridge with an ebony body. The Clearaudio Satisfy straight tonearm is made of anodized aluminum, has a wide range of adjustments and is equipped with a magnetic anti-skating system. There is a built-in high-quality interconnect cable and ground wire.

The sound of the Marantz TT-15S1 can be described as open, detailed, three-dimensional and precise. The TT-15S1 model has good upgrade potential. In particular, by replacing the stock cartridge with a precision MC cartridge, even more impressive results can be achieved. But even in the standard configuration, this device has remarkable talents.

The general characteristic of the Marantz TT-15S1’s performing style is an open and transparent sound. The scene is drawn with broad strokes, but is truly three-dimensional: it has a clear perspective in width, depth and height. Such an undeniable advantage of vinyl as the harmony of sound is clearly confirmed by the Marantz TT-15S1: the music flows easily and freely – it simply floats in space. The lower register can become muddy on the most complex compositions (like “Paranoid” by Black Sabbath), but only equipment from the exorbitant price segment can handle such tracks. The main trump card of the Marantz TT-15S1 is the clearly expressed texture of musical works. The guitar in Led Zeppelin’s “IV” sounds like it’s alive, and the tones of the string instruments in Beethoven’s “Ninth Symphony” are in no way different from real ones. However, if you replace the MM cartridge with a more expensive MC cartridge, the player performs even better. This turntable has great potential, so don’t jump to conclusions about its resolution – experiment with the heads first. And we recommend that the company’s engineers produce the model in two configuration options – with an average-priced cartridge and a more expensive one.

The Marantz TT-15S1 player turned out to be a pleasant surprise against the backdrop of many competing products released only to occupy the next market niche. Made with care and love, this device will serve you faithfully for many years.
