McIntosh MT2

McIntosh introduces the MT2 vinyl record player. According to established tradition, the new product is positioned as the pinnacle of technical perfection with inherent realism of music reproduction. Special attention in the company’s message is paid to the reliability of the electronic and mechanical parts of the new product, which should guarantee many years of use of the device without any problems. For additional visual compatibility with other McIntosh components, the new MT2 has a signature green backlight.

The new player is designed to play records at 33 and 45 rpm, and is almost completely ready for work immediately after removing it from the box. All the necessary parameters, including clamping force, anti-skate and tonearm height, are already set at the factory. The user will only need to make a few additional manipulations to make the new MT2 delight him with music playback. The player is equipped with an MC pickup with a high output, which, according to the manufacturer, makes it possible to use the player not only with an MC, but also with an MM phono preamplifier. According to the developers, high impedance and high output resistance provide impeccable music playback. The head has a cantilever cantilever and an elliptical diamond needle. The lightweight and very rigid tonearm is made of duralumin with the use of a special damping material. The silent high-precision vertical bearings have a ceramic surface and are placed in a damping liquid, the horizontal bearing is made of sapphire.

The turntable platter is made of dynamically balanced polyoxymethylene, over an inch thick, and has a belt drive. The material and design of the platter contribute to good absorption and minimization of external vibrations, which can cause unwanted noise. The relatively large weight of the platter helps to further stabilize the rotation speed. The inner part of the platter is made of milled aluminum. This design minimizes external vibrations (and, as a result, unnecessary sounds) and ensures a stable rotation speed. The platter bearing is a polished hardened steel shaft rotating in a bronze bushing. The DC motor is driven by an external power source with stabilized voltage, completely isolated from the chassis. The sturdy turntable has a high-density wooden base with a black lacquer coating optimized for combating resonances. The upper and middle acrylic plates help absorb unwanted vibrations. A transparent dust cover is included in the delivery set.

The turntable table is made of pressed wood (effectively dampens unwanted resonances) and is covered with a special black lacquer coating. Transparent acrylic plates of different sizes (stacked) play a special aesthetic and functional role in equipping the case. In combination with the signature green backlight, they give the device a noble and modern appearance, and at the same time, also fight against unnecessary vibrations. A transparent dust cover (to match) is also included in the kit. The DC motor that drives the disc is completely decoupled from the turntable chassis. Voltage is supplied from an external stabilized power supply. A special electronic circuit monitors the accuracy of the rotation speed (there are two modes: 33 and 45 revolutions).

The tonearm is light and very rigid. It is made of duralumin, deeply damped with a special material. The vertical deflection bearings are ceramic, silent and high-precision + placed in a damping liquid. The angular deflection bearing is sapphire. An important “trump card” of the solution is that the player is “ready to play” immediately after removing it from the box. All the necessary “tuning” (clamping force, anti-skating, tonearm height) was expertly performed by the manufacturer.
