Technics has launched a new turntable called SL-1300G. The new turntable is equipped with the own Delta Sigma Drive technology. According to the manufacturers, perfect synchronization and the use of a more powerful motor are just two of the interesting new developments. The turntable will be available for delivery in October in a silver and black version.

According to Technics, the new Delta Sigma Drive is capable of delivering the perfect sine wave signal for the iron coreless direct drive motor. By generating the signal using Delta Sigma modulation, as used in Technics’ fully digital amplifiers, motor vibration is reduced to a minimum, resulting in the highest rotation precision. This technology was first used in the SL-1200GR2 turntable. In the new SL-1300G, however, this technology is combined with two mechanically superior factors that have a huge impact on even greater sonic perfection.

The motor used in the SL-1300G is a dual-rotor/single-stator iron coreless motor, whose driving force is significantly higher than that of the simpler single-rotor/single-stator version used in the GR2 turntable. Due to the torque-free iron coreless design, the smooth operation of this higher-level motor is truly impressive, according to the designers. In addition, further research has been conducted into how to reduce vibration of the drive unit. The motor’s coil carrier plate now has a new bracing, which results in a further reduction of mechanical vibration caused by rotation.

The use of a more powerful motor also allows for the use of a more massive turntable platter, which is an additional measure to further reduce mechanical vibrations during record playback.

The platter consists of three layers. Die-cast aluminum forms the basis for high rigidity. A top layer of two-millimeter-thick brass, firmly attached to the die-cast platter, eliminates further vibrations and provides extra feel and elegance. The third layer is made of heavy rubber and dampens even the slightest residual vibrations under the turntable, resulting in a pure scanning process for each record for the highest signal precision. Because the heavier platter means higher inertia, the rotation accuracy of the SL-1300G is excellent.

The two-layer chassis made of die-cast aluminum and BMC (Bulk Moulding Compound) is a foundation that enables high resistance to vibration. In the SL-1300G, the thickness of the lower chassis made of die-cast aluminum has been increased to achieve higher rigidity and thus better vibration damping. In addition, a carefully developed rib structure has been introduced on the underside of the chassis plate between the motor and tonearm, which keeps mechanical motor vibration even further away from the tonearm to ensure an undisturbed scanning process, resulting in a sound image of the highest quality.

The highly sensitive S-shaped aluminum tonearm with precision bearings that enable very low breakaway torque takes full advantage of the vibration-free chassis to accurately scan the information engraved in the vinyl grooves. Highly effective damping feet shield external vibrations for even more accurate tracking.

Price and delivery information

The new SL-1300G will be available in silver and black from October 2024 at authorized dealers of Technics products. The suggested retail price is just under $3,000.
