Best soundbars 2024

We are starting a series of publications “results and awards of the year” – today it’s time to evaluate and rank the most impressive modern soundbars with Dolby Atmos.

All-in-one devices at the turn of 2023-2024 began to compete on equal terms with full 5.1 systems – the more interesting our selection turned out to be.

8. Bose Smart Soundbar 600

8. Bose Smart Soundbar 600

Configuration – 3.0.2. | Total power – n/a | Interfaces – 1 x HDMI eARC, optical

Pros – impressive sound for its price point

Cons – no DTS:X support

Verdict – a compact and very high-quality solution offered at an affordable price

The Bose Smart Soundbar 600 uses a full Dolby Atmos configuration with upward-firing speakers to create a cohesive, rich and highly immersive surround sound field. The model is especially worth praising for its brilliant dialogue processing – with such a compact size you don’t expect crystal clarity. The icing on the cake is support for AirPlay 2 and Chromecast.

7. Sonos Arc

7. Sonos Arc

Configuration – 5.0.2. | Total power – n/a | Interfaces – 1 x HDMI, 1 x HDMI eARC, optical, Ethernet, Bluetooth

Pros – equally good in films and music

Cons – nothing significant

Verdict – a soundbar for fans of the branded ecosystem

Sonos Arc is a model with support for Dolby Atmos, Dolby TrueHD and Dolby Digital Plus, creating a very stable sound field. Yes, the device is not cheap, and its interface capabilities are limited, but the chic ergonomics and application (the initial setup is extremely simple), ease of integration into the Sonos ecosystem and excellent workmanship dot the i’s.

6. LG S95QR

6. LG S95QR

Configuration – 9.1.5. | Total power – 810 W | Interfaces – 2 x HDMI, 1 x HDMI, optical, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB

Pros – stylish appearance, really voluminous supply

Cons – No pass-through support for 4K/120Hz via HDMI

Verdict – if you have a large room, the LG S95QR will not let you down

The LG S95QR multi-unit soundbar offers a full 9.1.5 circuit with a total power of as much as 810 W – this is a must-have for owners of large rooms. The cult High End developer Meridian had a hand in the development of the model – as a result, the sound of music here is of the same quality as movie soundtracks. The LG S95QR offers a decent ambient effect that is, in most cases, impossible to complain about.

5. Denon Home Sound Bar 550

5. Denon Home Sound Bar 550

Configuration – 4.0. | Total power – n/a | Interfaces – 1 x HDMI, 1 x HDMI eARC, optical, USB

Pros – really “big” sound

Cons: Power is a bit lacking

Verdict – flexible and modern soundbar

Yes, the Denon Home Sound Bar 550 uses only a 4.0 circuit, but this compact device is relatively affordable and offers a lot of features. Natural and rhythmic for music, dynamic and aggressive for movies – the soundbar is a miracle, how good it is. However, recommendations for use are limited to relatively small rooms up to 15 m2 – when used on a larger scale, the device can sometimes produce prevailing HF.

4. Bowers & Wilkins Panorama 3

4. Bowers & Wilkins Panorama 3

Configuration – 3.1.2. | Total power – 400 W | Interfaces – 1 x HDMI eARC, optical, Ethernet, USB

Pros – Hi-Fi quality playback on music and precision sound on movies

Cons: Not the best experience with Dolby Atmos

Verdict – B&W confirms its brand of quality

Bowers & Wilkins Panorama 3 is a true jack-of-all-trades, capable of captivating you with tonally accurate music and thoroughly disturbing your household at the movies. Stylish appearance, sophisticated touch control panel – add here a really wide sound canvas, support for Spotify Connect, AirPlay 2 and Bluetooth (with aptX Adaptive) and multiroom integration with Zeppelin, Formation or other speakers from the company – and we get a clear candidate for leadership.

3. Devialet Dione

3. Devialet Dione

Configuration – 5.1.2. | Total power – 950 W | Interfaces – 1x HDMI eARC, optical, Ethernet

Pros – the system does not use a subwoofer, but literally blows away with its bass

Cons – no HDMI pass-through

Verdict – one of the best Dolby Atmos devices on the market

The Devialet Dione could be the perfect all-in-one soundbar. You get superior Dolby Atmos sound without the subwoofer or rear speakers: just plug it in and enjoy. Something special from France, the Devialet Dione, like the stereo Phantom, uses proprietary ADH amplification and fantastically powerful speakers – as a result, after switching on, you want to check several times that an external (and large) subwoofer is not involved in the work. But, no, such bass is produced by just one slender panel. The localization capabilities, again, are exceptional – the only criticism of the device is the lack of a pass-through HDMI channel.

2. JBL Bar 1300X

2. JBL Bar 1300X

Configuration – 11.1.4. | Total power – 1,170 W | Interfaces – 3 HDMI, 1x HDMI eARC, optical, Bluetooth, USB

Pros – Dolby Atmos and DTS:X “in one bottle”, crazy power, advanced switching

Cons – not suitable for small spaces

Verdict – JBL grabs the stars from the sky

A true giant, the JBL Bar 1300X provides operation in 11.1.4 format, and the total system power exceeds kilowatts! The switching is incredibly developed, but what is most impressive is the sound of the system – American-style, sweeping, catchy and rich. This soundbar is one of the few on the market that can create a wall of sound – bravo. Just don’t try to fit it into a small bedroom – nothing good will come of it.

1. Samsung HW-Q990C

1. Samsung HW-Q990C

Configuration – 11.1.4. | Total power – 656 W | Interfaces – 2 x HDMI, 1 x HDMI eARC, optical, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth

Pros – Best ambient effect from an all-in-one device, 16 channels!

Cons – high price, no pass-through support for 4K/120 Hz via HDMI

Verdict – the choice of perfectionists

The flagship Samsung HW-Q990C soundbar operates in an 11.1.4 scheme and develops 656 W of power. The soundbar uses its own automatic room correction system and achieves an incredibly immersive effect when working in Dolby Atmos format. HDMI here works with HDR10+ and Dolby Vision signals, and streaming capabilities expand to Apple AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect and support for AAC, WAV, FLAC, AIFF, MP3, OGG and ALAC. Despite the high price, the Samsung HW-Q990C is worth every penny invested.
