Avid Hifi has announced the launch of the Avid Velsonic, an adjustable phono amplifier and the first completely new phono preamplifier design since 2012. Developed at the Cambridgeshire factory, the Velsonic replaces the earlier Pulsare II and Pellere models and, according to the designers, represents a significant renewal in the company's analog portfolio. It is also the new flagship model.
The Velsonic claims to build upon existing Avid Hi-Fi design principles rather than introducing an entirely new architecture. The design utilizes technologies developed for the company's Reference Pre-Amplifier and features revised circuitry and updated components aimed at improving overall performance. Avid states that attention has been paid to reducing noise and refining signal processing throughout the device.
Fully analog signal path, no digital circuits and fully adjustable

The Avid Velsonic features a fully analog dual-mono configuration without digital circuits. This approach is intended to preserve signal integrity and minimize potential interference. The internal layout and signal paths have been optimized to reduce unwanted noise and maintain channel separation.

An important aspect of the Velsonic is the extensive adjustment options for both MM and MC cartridges. The device offers a wider range of gain settings, allowing users to better match the output levels to other system components. Furthermore, the more extensive impedance options offer greater flexibility when combining with different cartridges, enabling a more precise system configuration.
The phono preamplifier features a precisely engineered chassis and improved isolation feet to limit mechanical interference. AVID has also adjusted the power supply voltage to improve operational stability and consistency. The use of series-connected components derived from high-quality designs is part of the overall technical approach.
The Avid Hifi Velsonic is expected to become available for delivery in the course of May 2026 and will have a suggested retail price of just under 16,000 euros.
