Dorpo Digital has launched a digital audio player called the DMP-A1. With the DMP-A1, Dorpo is expanding its operations from the home cinema market to the audio market. The DMP-A1 appears to have everything digital audio enthusiasts could wish for, and the device seems intent on competing with more well-known and established brands.

The Dorpo DMP-A1 (DMP = Digital Music Player) wants a spot on a desk or in an audio cabinet with an attractive combination of powerful music streamer, digital audio player, DA converter, preamplifier, and headphone amplifier. The device offers lossless playback up to 32-bit/768 kHz and supports FLAC, WAV, APE, and MQA decoding, as well as DSD files up to DSD512 (native), including DSF, DFF, SACD ISO, and DST.

There is also support for common streaming services such as Tidal, Spotify, Qobuz, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and Highresaudio. Furthermore, the DMP-A1 is Roon Ready and is compatible with Tidal Connect, Spotify Connect, Qobuz Connect, AirPlay, DLNA, and Bluetooth (Qualcomm QCC5181). However, not everything is available yet; some features are still in the pipeline and will be added later via wireless firmware updates as certification progresses.

The DMP-A1 can also function as a DA converter for other digital sources and features digital outputs for use with another DA converter. Analog music signals are output via RCA and XLR.

DA converter and balanced analog circuit

DA conversion is handled by an ESS ES9039SPro DAC chip, coupled with a highly accurate, low-jitter dual clock, according to the manufacturer. Additionally, there is a powerful third-generation XMOS XU316 audio processor, which promises excellent processing speed and high USB bandwidth. Dorpo states that this configuration should result in remarkably low distortion and noise, leading to crystal-clear audio and an exceptional listening experience.

The player's fully balanced analog circuits, including the analog output paths from the DA converter, are processed by a fully balanced differential amplifier circuit. This should largely eliminate common-ground crosstalk, resulting in significant improvements in channel separation and noise resistance, and a clearer, more defined sound. The fully balanced preamplifier circuit ensures precise volume control, allowing for direct connection to a power amplifier or active speakers.

Power supply

The DMP-A1 utilizes a dual power supply system. According to the manufacturer, the device features Dorpo's special, high-quality linear power supply for the audio circuits. A separate, low-noise switching power supply powers the digital circuits. According to Dorpo, this configuration guarantees optimal performance. It also ensures that the DMP-A1 automatically adapts to global mains voltage standards. As a result, manual adjustment of the input voltage is no longer necessary.

Headphone amplifier

For personal use, the DMP-A1 features a dedicated headphone amplifier circuit equipped with both a 6.35 mm and a balanced 4.4 mm output. The headphone amplifier is suitable for most headphones, from low to high impedance, i.e., 16 Ohm to 300 Ohm.

In addition to streaming, the DMP-A1 supports various USB drives and network storage devices, and features a built-in slot for a fast M.2 NVME 3.0 2280 SSD up to 8 TB. When used with compatible audio devices, the convenient 12V trigger input and output allows the entire system to be switched on or off directly from the DMP-A1 with a single click.

FunplayUI operating system based on Android 12

The DMP-A1 runs on a customized FunplayUI operating system based on Android 12, which promises a user-friendly interface and features such as screen mirroring and remote control via a smartphone or tablet. Additionally, the device can be operated via its own 5-inch high-definition LCD touchscreen.

All that technology is housed in a thick, precision-machined aluminum casing with a matte metal finish. A smooth volume knob with an adjustable LED light ring ensures a sleek appearance.

The Dorpo DMP-A1 is expected to become available for delivery during the second quarter of 2026.
