Dan D'Agostino Master Audio Systems has announced the Momentum C2Z preamplifier. The new preamplifier will make its official debut at AXPONA 2026 in Chicago this weekend.

According to the manufacturer, the new Momentum C2Z is the intended partner for the Momentum Z monoblock amplifiers . The combination is, by the company, designed to fully utilize the capabilities of the latest Z circuits. It builds upon the Z platform introduced with the Momentum Z amplifiers and indicates a broader shift towards closer system integration across the entire range.
The new Momentum C2Z does not replace the existing Momentum C2 , but is positioned as a complementary design developed to optimize the electrical interface between the preamplifier and power amplifier, with the aim of improving overall system performance. At the heart of the update is a reworked output stage. The Momentum C2Z introduces a current-capable field effect transistor (FET), allowing the preamplifier to deliver significantly more current to the output stage, which, according to the designers, improves stability and control over the signal path.

This change is intended to work in conjunction with the revised input topology of the Z-amplifier. This deviates from conventional high-impedance FET designs by lowering the input impedance, allowing more current to be drawn from the preamplifier. In practice, this results in closer coupling between the components, with the aim of improving transient response, dynamic contrast, and overall system resolution.
Lead designer Dan D'Agostino describes the new design as a step towards a more direct connection between the different stages. “With the creation of the Momentum C2Z, we wanted to do more than just refine an already exceptional platform; we wanted to fully utilize the performance of the Momentum Z Monoblock circuits. We have created a more direct and optimized connection between the preamplifier and the power amplifier,” states the manufacturer.

Although the technical focus is on current delivery and interface optimization, the intended result is improved control over low frequencies and higher resolution at low levels. According to the company, bass reproduction in particular benefits from more texture and spatiality, especially at lower listening levels where details are often lost.
Placed in the proper context, the Momentum C2Z continues a pattern within the Momentum series, where recent updates, including the Momentum Z amplifiers and the MXV integrated amplifier , have focused less on individual components and more on how those components work together as a complete system.
