The Meze ASTRU is an in-ear monitor built around a clear idea: achieve high performance through simplicity. Instead of relying on complex multi-driver configurations, it uses a single dynamic driver housed in a precision-machined titanium enclosure. The result is a design that prioritizes coherence, durability, and long-term usability.
Sound character and presentation
ASTRU delivers a sound that is both full and controlled. It combines strong low-end presence with a natural midrange and a smooth, extended treble. The presentation is cohesive, with consistent tonal balance across the frequency range.
The single-driver approach helps maintain a unified soundstage, where instruments and vocals are positioned with clarity and without the phase inconsistencies that can occur in more complex designs. This gives the listening experience a sense of continuity and realism.

Driver design and materials
At the core of the ASTRU is a dynamic driver featuring a multilayer composite diaphragm. The dome is coated with multiple ultra-thin layers of gold using a vacuum deposition process, followed by a titanium layer on a PEEK base.
This combination of materials is designed to improve stiffness while keeping mass low, contributing to better transient response, controlled resonance, and extended frequency performance.
Venting and pressure control
The housing incorporates a rear vent system that equalizes air pressure between the internal chamber and the external environment. This allows the diaphragm to move more freely, supporting deeper low-frequency extension while also reducing pressure buildup in the ear canal during longer listening sessions.

Titanium construction
The ASTRU housing is CNC-machined from a single block of titanium. This approach provides high structural rigidity while keeping weight relatively low. The surface is finished through a multi-stage process that results in a smooth, satin-like texture.
Each pair undergoes a detailed manufacturing process that emphasizes consistency and precision.

Fit and ergonomics
The shape of the ASTRU follows the ergonomic principles established in earlier Meze models such as ADVAR and ALBA. The contours are designed to sit naturally in the ear, aiming to reduce pressure points and improve long-term comfort.
The goal is a stable fit that allows the earphones to remain unobtrusive during extended listening.

Accessories and included components
The ASTRU comes with a silver-plated copper cable using LC-OFC conductors, with a relatively high strand count for flexibility and signal integrity. The cable is terminated in a 4.4 mm balanced connector and includes an adapter to 3.5 mm for broader compatibility.
Multiple ear tip sizes made from liquid silicone are included to help achieve a proper seal and maintain the intended tuning. Protective mesh filters are used to prevent debris from entering the acoustic channels.
For storage and transport, the package includes both a rigid protective case and a softer pouch for everyday use.

Design concept
The name “ASTRU,” derived from Romanian and meaning “dawn,” reflects the product’s conceptual direction. It suggests a focus on clarity and openness, both in sound and design. Rather than emphasizing complexity, ASTRU is built around refinement of core principles—materials, acoustics, and ergonomics.
