Revel Performa4: New Reference Speakers with 7th Gen Waveguide & DCC Drivers

Revel unveils the Performa4 series with new waveguide tech, DCC/MCC drivers, and seven models including floorstanders, monitors, center speaker, and subwoofer for reference-level sound.

Revel, part of Harman Luxury Audio, has announced the Performa4 product line of speakers. This is the fourth generation of the Performa product line. The series consists of two floorstanding speakers, two monitor models, a center model, and an active subwoofer.

Revel ‘s Performa 4 series  features, among other things, a new waveguide. According to the company, there are a total of six loudspeakers built around thirty years of psychoacoustic research. Deep Ceramic Composite and Micro Ceramic Composite (DCC and MCC, respectively) are the driver materials central to Revel's recently announced Performa 4 series.

According to Harman Luxury Audio (owner of Revel), the DCC and MCC cones offer exceptional stiffness and lower weight compared to conventional alternatives, which should result in less coloration. All bass and midrange drivers are housed in newly patented cast aluminum frames, designed using finite element analysis for optimal airflow and improved resonant performance.

Each Performa4 model features Revel’s in-house developed patented seventh-generation Acoustic Lens waveguide, in which a 1-inch DCC dome tweeter is seamlessly integrated with the midrange driver. Revel claims that the waveguide provides superior directional control, higher efficiency, improved dynamic range, and reduced distortion, even far off the listening axis. According to the designers, the practical result is a wider and more consistent listening area without the usual drawback of sound degradation as you listen further away from the center.

Revel Performa4 series: seven products

The Performa4 series comprises seven members. At the top are two floorstanding loudspeakers: the F346, a three-way system with three 6.5-inch MCC bass drivers and a 6.5-inch DCC midrange driver, and the F345, which employs the same architecture with 5.25-inch drivers. Both models feature dual rear bass ports and dual bi-amp connections.

The two monitor models, named M146 and (the smaller) M145, combine a single MCC mid/bass driver with the DCC dome tweeter and a seventh-generation waveguide. The M146 uses a 6.5-inch mid/bass driver, and the M145 features a smaller 5.25-inch driver. Both are compatible with the optional MFS4 floor stands, which are constructed from extruded aluminum and steel with integrated cable management.

The range is completed by the C245 center model, which places two 5.25-inch MCC mid/bass drivers on either side of the DCC tweeter for clear dialogue in home cinema setups. For the low-frequency foundation, there is the B140 active subwoofer. The B140 uses a 10-inch fiber composite cone, powered by a 750-Watt RMS Class D amplifier, with Revels Constant Pressure Gradient port on the rear reportedly eliminating turbulence at the output. Bass response extends down to 26 Hz. (Full specifications for each new model are available in the comparison table below).

The cabinets in this series are constructed with sturdy, cross-reinforced panels with slightly curved sides, finished with natural walnut or black walnut veneer. The grids are magnetically attached.
